Decking the halls @ Salvation Army began with sharing the story of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem then concluding with hanging ornaments on the Christmas tree.
The Christmas story was read by Wally, jr with large colorful pictures for the children to visualize, enjoy and imagine. When Wally poised the question “whose birthday do we celebrate on Christmas?” 25 children and only one girl could answer ‘Jesus’.
Most of the children never had heard the story of Jesus birth in the manager of Bethlehem.
Esther explained the" magnify the Lord " importance and led the children with O Come All Ye Faithful [song sheets helped; however, only a few voices joined in the words.
“Jingle Bells” had the full choral effect and
“We Wish You A Merry Christmas” raised the Activity Center roof.
The Christmas morning activities began with a candy cane hunt in the gym, followed by coloring pages[ the wisemen, or the shepherds or the Nativity scene with Mary, Joseph with Jesus in the manger].
Activities included frosting cookies and concluded with the children [guided by moms] selecting a book as a Christmas gift to take to their apartment.
Much fun for volunteers and families during the December event.
